The state council recently issued the 13th five-year plan for developing strategic emerging industries, which lays out plans for developing strategic emerging industries by 2020.
The plan calls for accelerating the development of five strategic emerging industries -- new generation information technology, high-end manufacturing, biology, green and low-carbon, and digital creativity -- during the 13th five-year plan period, which will form the new pillars of five national industries with output value of 10 trillion yuan.
Among them, the biological industry is expected to reach 8-10 trillion yuan by 2020, and one of the key contents of this industry is medical devices.
The plan calls for "improving the level of biomedical engineering". Details include:
1, deepen blend in biomedical engineering and information technology, accelerate the industry regulation reform, actively develop new medical instruments, building new forms of mobile medical, remote medical diagnosis and treatment, promote the intelligent healthcare industry, promote application of high performance medical device, promote conform to the new technology of life science research and develop the new instruments and reagents, enhance the overall competitiveness of biomedical engineering industry in China.
2. Carry out intelligent and mobile new medical devices.
We will develop intelligent medical devices and their software and supporting reagents, as well as a comprehensive telemedicine service platform and terminal equipment, carry out mobile medical services, formulate relevant data specifications, promote connectivity, and initially establish a modern intelligent medical service system in which information technology and biotechnology are deeply integrated.
3. Develop high-performance medical equipment and central components.
We will provide high-quality medical imaging equipment, advanced radiation therapy equipment, high-throughput and low-cost gene sequencing equipment, gene editing equipment, and medical equipment for rehabilitation, to significantly improve the stability and reliability of medical equipment.
The application of additive manufacturing and other new technologies will accelerate the innovation and industrialization of tissue and organ repair and replacement materials as well as medical devices for implant intervention.
We will accelerate the development of new products such as in vitro diagnostic instruments, equipment and reagents, and promote the development of new technologies such as highly specific molecular diagnostics and biochips to support rapid and accurate in vitro diagnosis and screening of tumors, genetic diseases and rare diseases.
As mentioned above, high-performance medical devices, 3D printing devices, IVD and wearable devices have been included in the plan and will become key components of the pillar industry of the country.
